Physical principles that govern vascularization of scaffolds
Rational procedures for routine vascularization of biomaterials are needed before we can use these materials to generate clinically relevant volumes of tissue. I will present our recent work on vascularization and its unifying principles. We have used a combination of experimental, computational, and analytical tools to determine the signals required for stable vascularization. This work highlights the importance of physical signals in vascularization, and explains why certain scaffolds and perfusion conditions are better at promoting vascularization than others.
