Department of Biomedical Engineering

The last half-century has seen an unparalleled explosion in new medical knowledge that can help to extend lifespan and to improve the quality of life. New scientific discoveries have also led to the new creation of biomedical industries and health-related businesses. As a national center for the pharmaceutical and technology industries, New Jersey is at the center of this activity.

The educational programs in biomedical engineering integrate physical, chemical, mathematical, and computational sciences with engineering principles to study biology, medicine, behavior, and health. Students at all levels of study learn to develop practical applications of scientific knowledge for the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of disease, for patient rehabilitation, and for improving health.
